Dr. Robert Ashmeade on Data Privacy

When it comes to data privacy, it’s not what keeps your personal information private, but who. Just ask GRC’s Dr. Robert Ashmead. Behind every data privacy system designed to protect your confidential information – like your U.S. Census response – is a person and a team of people charged with keeping you safe and protecting your privacy.

Dr. Ashmead keeps GRC and its academic and state health partners ahead of the curve when it comes to data privacy. His experience with the U.S. Census Bureau and research in biostatistics helps inform and advance our clients’ statistical and survey methodology needs.

That’s why it’s no surprise Dr. Ashmead stays on top of the latest data protection trends. Not only is he at the table for the conversation on best practices, but he’s also helping lead the national discussion on data privacy by sharing his expertise in differential privacy and teaching participants at the 2019 American Statistical Association’s Joint Statistical Meetings – the largest gathering of statisticians and data scientists in North America.

Over the course of a week in the summer of 2019, statisticians and data scientists from all over the world will converge in Denver to learn, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration at the annual Joint Statistical Meetings. For the conference, Dr. Ashmead has organized a unique class focusing on differential privacy research and applications.

From the class, participants will walk away with a theoretical and practical knowledge of differential privacy that will help organizations and researchers collect and publish data while limiting privacy loss and disclosure risk.
