BEACON Childhood Obesity Network

The MEDTAPP directed and BEACON supported Childhood Obesity Project uses QI science through practitioner learning collaboratives to determine the extent to which healthy weight outcomes can be achieved. The current phase of this initiative includes two connected programs developed through the OhioAAP.

The first, Healthy Kids Ohio-Ounce of Prevention (HKO-OP), was created to preempt habits that fuel excess weight gain.
The second, a complimentary program to Ounce of Prevention, A Pound of Cure, is a training program for obesity counseling in primary care. It offers training and resources to aid clinicians in evaluating, interviewing, educating, tracking and following up with overweight and obese children and their families. It is designed to support primary care providers with a specific counseling process and the resources to make them optimally effective by providing behavior change techniques as a component of education about core messages.
This project is funded by the Ohio Office of Medical Assistance (OMA) and the Ohio Department of Health.  For more information on the Request for Applications for the project, please visit our Funding Opportunities section at the following link:  http://grc.osu.edu/closedfunding/
