Ohio Medicaid Assessment Survey (OMAS) logo OMAS Public Analytic Data Variable Descriptions

1 Introduction

This document is intended to provide clarity on how the GRC created the variables produced in its recoding of the variables provided by RTI. Some additional details about the origin of these variables are provided here to give context about the meaning of the recoded variables. If a variable is ends with “_IMP”, then it has been imputed by RTI. A full codebook for the variables provided by RTI can be found on the OMAS Website.

Responses indicating that a respondent didn’t know the answer to a question or refused to answer a question were recoded to NA for all variables. In some cases, a variable derived from a question where a respondent did not provide an answer might still have a non-missing response - these recoding rules are described for each such variable.

Recoded variables that are indicators for respondent characteristics are coded so that a value of “1” indicates the respondent has that characteristic and a value of “0” indicates that the respondent does not have that characteristic.
