Kelly L. Markowski, PhD

Kelly Markowski joined the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC) in January 2022 and is a Senior Research Consultant in the Population Health and Quality Improvement (PHQI) section. She is a sociologist and mixed methodologist with expertise in qualitative data collection and survey instrumentation. She is the Principal Investigator of the Ohio Pregnancy Assessment Survey (OPAS) and also works on the Ohio Medicaid Assessment Survey (OMAS) and SUD 1115 Waiver Evaluation projects.

Prior to joining the GRC, Kelly completed a 2-year postdoc in the Rural Drug Addiction Research (RDAR) Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in sociology from Kent State University and holds a B.A. in sociology and psychology from Bradley University. Her independent research spans a variety of topics—including identity, social networks, veganism, and substance use—and has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Social Psychology, Social Psychology Quarterly, Advances in Group Processes, Appetite, Addictive Behaviors, and the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Most recently, she co-edited a volume featuring original, empirical research in identity theory, Identity Development and Maintenance in Context, published by Springer in 2026.
