In July, Brynne Presser Funderburg, MPH, CHES, Senior Project Manager, presented at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting. AcademyHealth works to improve health and healthcare for all by advancing evidence to inform policy and practice.

As a co-chair of AcademyHealth’s Community of Practice pilot program, Brynne spoke on a panel titled “Navigating the Changing DEIA Landscape as Organizations, Leaders, and Researchers."

The panel addressed the increasing pushback against diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives within health services research institutions, which has intensified as the election approaches. Alongside other DEIA Community of Practice leaders, Brynne discussed how researchers and institutions are either upholding or struggling with their DEIA commitments. The session featured interactive exercises that helped participants connect with one another and apply DEIA principles in their work.

The panel at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting highlighted the need to stay committed to DEIA in health services research, even as challenges and resistance increase. Brynne Presser Funderburg and other leaders continue to work towards a fairer and more inclusive healthcare system.
