GRC Researchers Attend International Conference on Health Policy Statistics
In January, Alyssa Antonini, PhD, and Nikki Schnitzler, PhD, represented the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC) at the International Conference on Health Policy Statistics (ICHPS), held January 6-8 in sunny San Diego, CA. The event brought together statisticians, health policy experts, and researchers to address the challenges of evaluating health policies through advanced statistical methods and innovative approaches.
Alyssa and Nikki immersed themselves in a series of workshops and presentations, gaining fresh insights into methods for evaluating complex health policies. One workshop highlighted strategies for analyzing state health policies in dynamic public health contexts, while another explored the integration of qualitative and quantitative methods to strengthen policy evaluation. These sessions provided tools and frameworks to navigate the complexities of policy research while advancing health equity.
In addition to attending these sessions, Alyssa presented a poster on the Ohio Substance Use Disorder 1115 Waiver evaluation, which highlighted the promising impact of programmatic changes on Medicaid beneficiaries. Her presentation shed light on the ongoing challenges of analyzing health outcomes in the context of the pandemic and offered an innovative three-phase interrupted time series approach to better understand policy effects over time.
Beyond learning and presenting, Alyssa and Nikki used the conference as an opportunity to network with researchers, methodologists, and policymakers from across the country. These conversations sparked new ideas for integrating advanced methods into GRC’s projects and laid the foundation for future collaborations that can enhance the impact of work at GRC.
By staying at the forefront of policy evaluation techniques and fostering relationships with other leaders in the field, Alyssa and Nikki are helping to ensure that GRC’s research remains both rigorous and impactful.
