The Government Resource Center (GRC) joins the Medicaid Outcomes Distributed Research Network (MODRN) in a first-of-its-kind evaluation of opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment across eight state Medicaid programs.

Medicaid plays a significant role in OUD treatment. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, Medicaid covers 38% of nonelderly adults with opioid addiction. However, there is variability in how state Medicaid programs approach OUD treatment in terms of services covered, delivery systems, and provider payment.

Led by AcademyHealth, MODRN provides a comprehensive assessment of OUD treatment, access, quality and outcomes across eight states heavily impacted by the opioid crisis: Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.

“This research network is directly relevant to our state’s efforts to address the impact of opioid use disorder by learning from and sharing information with other states in our region,” said Dushka Crane, Director of Quality Improvement and Healthcare Integration at GRC.

Each state Medicaid program participating in MODRN is paired with a university partner to perform rigorous analyses of Medicaid data while ensuring the security of health information.
