
Dr. Pennie Theodorou Stamatakos joined the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center (GRC) in July 2025 as a Senior Project Manager on the Quality Improvement Science team. She brings expertise in healthcare policy, leadership, and management to advance systems-level changes with a focus on improving outcomes for children and families. Her career spans academic, nonprofit, and government sectors, where she has led strategic, data-driven initiatives to advance health equity. At GRC, she contributes to a range of quality improvement projects including MOMI PODS, Children’s Mental Health (Healthy Minds, Strong Future), and the Coverdell Stroke Quality Improvement Project.
Dr. Stamatakos holds a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) from Boston University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, where she also earned a certificate in Maternal and Child Health. She received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in Psychology from the University of Arizona in her hometown of Tucson.
Following her MPH, Dr. Stamatakos completed a fellowship with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in the Office of Research Integrity in Washington, DC, where she supported efforts to prevent misconduct in federally funded research. She later completed a doctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, conducting mixed-methods dissertation research aimed at improving health equity in Early Intervention services for young children with or at risk of developmental delays and disabilities.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Stamatakos led quality improvement and programmatic initiatives at Children’s National Hospital, advancing integrated behavioral healthcare and mental health screening for children and caregivers. She facilitated hospital and state-level workgroups focused on multisystem approaches to improving care delivery which have been published in the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Journal of Pediatrics as a resource for clinicians and researchers.
