Robert Ashmead is a Research Scientist and Assistant Director of Applied Research and Analysis at the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center. He leads the Informatics research section which specializes in statistical methodology, data visualization including the development of interactive dashboards, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Since joining GRC in 2019, he has worked on a variety of projects within GRC’s scope including survey, quality improvement, claims analysis, and evaluation projects.  Additionally, he has served as the principal or co-principal investigator for several projects.  Robert is an expert in developing R-Shiny dashboards, and examples of his work can be found here. 


Dr. Ashmead received his PhD in biostatistics from The Ohio State University in 2014. Prior to joining the GRC in 2019, Robert worked as a Research Mathematical Statistician at the U.S. Census Bureau where he was involved with a variety of projects including assisting with the design and implementation of the data privacy methods for the 2020 Decennial Census, developing small area estimation models for the Voting Rights Act Section 203 Determinations, and evaluating respondent contact burden in the American Community Survey. Robert continues to work with the Census Bureau in a part-time capacity on data privacy methods research related to the 2020 Decennial Census. Outside of GRC, Robert also currently serves as the President of Columbus Chapter of the American Statistical Association.
