A thrilling day unfolded at the 2024 Health Scholars Research Symposium, where groundbreaking research with far-reaching implications for health in Ohio and beyond took center stage. The event, hosted for the second consecutive year by the Health Collaborative, featured a distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Gilbert Liu, M.D., and showcased impactful research emerging from OHIO University. With 62 students and postdoctoral researchers presenting a wide array of topics, the symposium delved into crucial areas such as Appalachian health disparities and type 1 diabetes.
The symposium, held on Friday, February 2, provided a platform for the dissemination of diverse research findings aimed at addressing pressing health challenges.
Dr. Liu, in his address, encapsulated the spirit of the event saying, "Ohio University is a major contributor to the GRC's success and the health of Ohio, especially regarding our neighbors who reside in rural communities. A major highlight for me was interacting with OU students who showcased their research projects during a poster presentation. Our future is in great hands as evidenced by numerous examples of brilliant student projects that spanned basic, clinical, educational and socio-behavioral studies. I also highly appreciated the opportunity to discuss collaboration with executive leaders who were in attendance from the College of Health Sciences and Professions, the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service."
