The Ohio Fatherhood Survey (OFS) is an annual, population-based survey that utilizes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) methodology model to gather information from new fathers who recently had a child in Ohio. At the request of the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM), GRC is administering the OFS to contribute to the monitoring of paternal and infant health. The OFS is conducted in partnership with an advisory committee comprised of subject matter experts from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, Ohio Practitioners’ Network for Fathers and Families, Action for Children, and Lucian Families.

OFS data will provide information not available from other sources, particularly during the first several months after the child is born. This information will be used to identify fathers at risk for health problems, to monitor changes in their health status, and to measure progress toward improving the health of fathers and their infants.

The OFS is a stratified, mixed-mode survey of residential individuals who had a live-born infant in Ohio. Sampled individuals are contacted approximately 2-4 months after the child is born and are able to complete the survey online, by mail, or via telephone.

Data collection for the 2022 OFS is conducted with the assistance of RTI International (RTI). The 2023 survey is currently in development and will be fielded in Spring 2023.
