About OAK

The Outcomes Acceleration for Kids (OAK) Learning Network seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of Ohio's pediatric population by transforming care delivery to meet patients' needs and connecting regional partners to identify best practices in promoting health care fairness.

Since Ohio continues to fall in the bottom half of state child health rankings, OAK intends to accelerate health care quality improvement by placing families' needs at the center of health care process redesign. Learning networks, groups of healthcare professionals and providers that implement best practices to improve quality of care, are organized around the state to address the needs of Ohio’s youth. The OAK Learning Network also includes families, managed care organizations, community partnerships, and other resources to provide comprehensive services necessary for better outcomes.

The GRC provides analytic support to the OAK Learning Network including measure construction and processing, data management, reporting, and technical assistance. The GRC’s work supports quality improvement efforts both at the statewide level and for specific hospital systems. The GRC also provides crucial visualization of the data that are collected from this project, using interactive dashboards to turn data into visual storytelling of the improvements in health outcomes over the project period. This visualization gives participants a real-time view of their progress and aids in determining further actionable areas of improvement.

The OAK project is divided into four different domains of health and is operating across the state of Ohio.

OAK Domains:

  • Well-child health care
  • Asthma
  • Behavioral health
  • Sickle cell disease

The OAK Learning Network is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Medicaid.
