STop UNhealthy (STUN) Substance Use Now Trial (STUN II)

The STop UNhealthy (STUN) Substance Use Now Trial (STUN II) is a multisite trial aiming to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of strategies for improving the implementation of screening and interventions for substance use disorders (SUDs) in primary care.

SUDs, which can involve illicit drugs, prescription drugs, or alcohol, are common and result in substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide and in the US, and Ohio is among the states with the highest rates of SUDs. Despite the burden of illness and recommendations to screen and provide evidence-based interventions for SUDs, relatively few people who visit primary care providers are asked about substances or ever discuss it with a health professional.
